Justice is eyes gouged out

blind-justiceThey say that justice is blind. As far as I can tell it has had its eyes gouged out.

Compare and contrast.

A man with a .38 revolver and 10 rounds of ammunition entered a building. He went to the office of his first victim and shot him in the shoulder and chest, and twice in the head. He reloaded his gun while walking to another office and found his second victim who was shot five times with “the final two shots fired with the gun’s barrel touching” the victim’s skull.

The man then turned himself in and confessed. A jury found him guilty of “voluntary manslaughter” rather than first-degree murder. He was sentenced to seven years in prison but was paroled after only serving five.

A woman was accused of killing her ex-boyfriend by stabbing him 27 to 29 times, slitting his throat, and shooting him in the head. At trial the woman claimed the death was “justifiable homicide” committed in self-defense. A jury found her guilty of first-degree murder and she was sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole.

A man flew a gyrocopter and landed it on the White House lawn. He was charged with two felonies (violating registration requirements involving an aircraft and operating without an airman certificate) and four misdemeanor counts involving national defense airspace and operating a vehicle falsely labeled as a postal carrier. The case is pending and the man faces up to 9-1/2 years in prison.

An 18-year-old man used a traffic cone to smash the window of a parked and unoccupied police car. The man then turned himself in and admitted wrongdoing. He was charged with eight counts including rioting and malicious destruction of property following a “protest that turned violent.” He was held in jail until released after posting a $500,000 bail. The case is pending and the man faces up to eight years in prison.

  1. Sadly, so true. I do NOT get our justice system. Yes, I know a lot of pleas go on, but I learned a long time ago that “life in prison” can easily mean 7 years. It’s overcrowding and politics. Unfortunately, it’s the public that suffers!!! Preach it, Shout! I’m with you!!!!

    1. No matter how you slice it, some things just don’t add up. Thanks for the nice comment. I figured I’d take a stab at it.

I can’t even watch the news anymore. I stopped around the time I was hearing and seeing that concealed-carry would have saved everyone because they could have defended themselves :/

    1. How often do you hear about the proverbial “good gun with a gun” saving the day? Almost never. And sometimes a unarmed person becomes the hero by tackling a shooter during the act of reloading. (That happened right here in Oregon.)

Unbiased studies have found that gun ownership increases your odds of being killed by a firearm. The odds go even higher when you include accidents and suicides.

Wait, real life isn’t like Tombstone or The Quick and the Dead? Damn.

(totally agree…if I get killed by a random shooter, I would want it noted I don’t carry a gun because the risk of suicide with two depressives in the house is/was at one time higher than my odds of surviving a terrorist event)

  3. Three are some very strange measures of what constitutes justice, given the crimes – especially with regards to the last two cases – I sort of understand the hyper-sensitivity concerning the White House, but to lock him away for longer than a man who violently killed several people?!
